Biden is a more problematic climate hypocrite than Kylie Jenner

A few weeks ago, socialite Kylie Jenner was ‘climate shamed’ on social media after posting an Instagram post with a picture of herself and her former partner Travis Scott and their private jets. Jenner’s caption to the post, “wanna take mine or yours?” received torrents of criticism for its poor taste.

But out of sheer boldness, people should look to Washington, not Hollywood, when it comes to climate hypocrisy. Over the past year, the middle class has taken a beating when it comes to energy policy, with gasoline prices still nearly doubling the mark at around $2.31 a gallon since the start of the President Trump, and home heating prices have also skyrocketed. The increases come in large part because Democrats believe in leaving American energy buried in the ground to appease left-wing activists outraged by the “climate crisis.”

Even as Democrats in Congress prepare a massive fiscal and spending spree full of “green energy” hogs to deal with this “crisis,” their putative leader, Joe Biden, is acting like a jet-setter when it comes to his own lifestyle. Biden’s actions demonstrate not only that he has no intention of practicing what he preaches, but that he is perfectly content to let working families suffer, while indulging his own desire for luxury and comfort.

“Crisis — What climate crisis? »

Consider some of the first acts Biden took after stepping down as vice president in 2017. Upon signing a book deal, he used the proceeds to increase his real estate portfolio. In addition to the mansion he already owned in Wilmington, Delaware, he purchased a nearly 5,000 square foot “beach house” in Rehoboth Beach.

Asked about the purchase, Biden told a local newspaper that the move fulfilled a lifelong dream of owning a beach house. Apparently solving the “climate crisis” has taken precedence over buying another mansion and increasing its carbon footprint in the process.

In addition to the Wilmington estate and his Rehoboth “beach house,” Biden also rented a mansion outside Washington after stepping down from the vice presidency. This palace has nearly 12,000 square feet of living space, a third more than the vice president’s residence that Biden left behind. It also includes parking for over 20 cars, which makes the house environmentally friendly, a gym, sauna, chandeliers in the entrance hall and a grand piano in a music room/lounge.

Look at a picture of Zillow’s house and ask yourself: does the person living here look like someone who cares a lot about the “climate crisis”?

Jetting to Wilmington and Rehoboth

After spending money to acquire a real estate portfolio, Biden now spends much of his time using taxpayer dollars to visit it.

While Jenner has drawn attacks for taking flights on her jet for minor excursions like short as 17 minutes, Biden’s slightly longer flights to Delaware occur almost as frequently. In 2021 alone, Biden made 31 trips to Delaware — and another 12 trips at Camp David, Maryland’s official presidential retreat.

One of the stories discussing Jenner’s controversial post noted that “in one hour, a single private jet can emit two tons of carbon dioxide.” But as a specially modified Boeing 747, Air Force One must emit far more tons of toxic fumes than the small jets that celebrities like Jenner frequent.

For security reasons, the President of the United States obviously cannot fly on commercial airlines. But is that too much to ask of someone who complains about a “climate crisis” – and says the feds need to raise taxes to fund a bunch of wacky climate spending to deal with this “crisis” – maybe to be not spending every weekend flying in a massively polluting Boeing 747 (not to say funded by taxpayers)?

After all, taxpayers are already providing Mr. Biden with accommodation in a grand, if not historic, mansion. The White House includes its own tennis court, putting green, bowling alley and plenty of space for Mr Biden to “ride a bike” away from the prying eyes of the press. What more could the man ask for?

It’s not about climate, it’s about control

A comment on Jenner’s Instagram post hit the nail on the head: “Why am I limiting my meat intake and using paper straws when the 1% is pumping tons of carbon into the atmosphere for an excursion? a day in Palm Springs?” Replace Palm Springs with “Wilmington” or “Rehoboth Beach,” and you have Joe Biden’s behavior and example in a nutshell.

In many ways, the answer is as simple as it is infuriating: Left-leaning politicians, just like left-leaning celebrities, think they’re better than you and don’t have to follow the rules they set for others. . They want others (meaning you) to pay the price for their climate “sins”. And climate groups have shown themselves willing to play along and give Biden a free pass for his hypocritical example, as long as he adopts the policies they want.

But the fact that the left has little interest in practicing what it preaches shows that the “climate crisis” is not really about climate; it is a seizure of power. As Rahm Emanuel noted, “You never let a serious crisis go to waste.” That’s why the left calls anything and everything a “crisis” – because for them, “crisis” functions as code for “the government’s takeover.”

Make Biden practice what he preaches

Some smart conservative offices should propose an amendment during the Senate vote on the Democratic tax and spending bill that would prohibit the use of taxpayer funds for these emissions-generating weekend flights to Delaware for the first couple. If the “climate crisis” is as bad as the Democrats claim, then the 100 senators should easily accept this common sense provision.

If, on the other hand, Democrats voted against this kind of measure, it would reinforce the fact that these lawmakers have no interest in holding themselves to the same standards and restrictions as mere mortals like you and me. the next time you’re at the pumps, paying an outrageously high price for gas under this president.
