Kush Hospitality takes over the famous Clevelander South Beach hotel

Matt Kuscher has become something of a revivalist in Miami, transforming fledgling restaurants and taking old haunts and turning them into something new and cool again. He did it in MiMo with Cafe Kush at Selina Gold Dust, in Hialeah with Kush by Stephens and in Brickell with Tobacco Route by Kush. This summer, he displayed his talents in South Beach as Kush Hotel Group (KHG) recently took over the diet program from the famous (and often infamous) Clevelander South Beach Hotel & Bar.

And let’s talk about the timing: Opened in 1938, the Clevelander turns 80 next weekend. The Ocean Drive property is iconic in every way, known for its pool bar, rooftop terrace and sun terrace, all of which will serve dishes designed by Kuscher and his team. “Clevelander is world famous as a place everyone should visit when in South Beach; they come to discover our famous frozen cocktails and dance all day and all night. Now they can also enjoy a unique food concept in South Florida. We wanted to bring something unique to the space that locals would return to, and what better partner than Kush,” says Jessica Francos, VP of Operations at Jesta Hotels & Resorts, owner of the property.

The relationship between the two partners gets even more serious in September with the opening of Kush in Clevelander South Beach, a reimagined sports bar decked out in kitsch Kush decor, with Miami sports memorabilia and plenty of TVs for all your big games. The bar program, created by KHG Bar Manager Cristina Suarez, will include classic cocktails, bespoke creations and several craft beers to choose from.

Kush in Clevelander South Beach is set to open at 1020 Ocean Drive by September 1, just in time for the fall football season.
